9/16/2022 5:55:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team fell to the Duquesne Dukes on Friday 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-22) on the first day of the Toledo Challenge (Friday, Sept. 16).
Despite the Mastodons going up 14-10 in the first set, the Dukes went on a 9-3 run to take a lead. The 'Dons re-took it with a 5-1 stretch that was capped off by LonDynn Betts' ace, but Duquesne scored five of the last six points of the set. Ramei Jackson had a team-high five kills in the first.
After a 4-0 run to start the second, the Mastodons saw Duquesne rattle off 10 straight. Late in the set, the 'Dons scored 7-of-the-last-9, but the Dukes only needed two to take a 2-0 lead.
Duquesne used a late 5-1 run in the third set to take the match. Sidney Schiller and Iris Riegel had four kills each in the frame.
Schiller finished with a team-high 11 kills. Jackson joined her in double-figures with 10. Rachael Crucis had 15 digs to lead all defenders. She needs just 15 more to pass her former teammate Katie Crowe to move into fourth in the all-time digs list. Jena Medearis played in her first match as a Mastodon, blocking four balls.
The Mastodons fall to 4-6 while Duquesne improves to 3-8. The 'Dons will play their last non-league match on Saturday (Sept. 17) against Toledo at 4 p.m. on ESPN3.
