Mastodon Records Fall at Cardinal Classic

YORKTOWN, Ind. - Three Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf records were tied or set on Monday (Sept. 19) on the opening day of the Cardinal Classic.
Anna Olafsdottir tied the 18-hole record with a 69 in the first round, then beat the 36-hole with a second round of 71 for a total 140. The 140 beat the previous record by five shots.
As a team, the Mastodons shot 295-301-596, besting the previous record by a pair. The Mastodons' opening round of 295 was the best first round in the field on Monday.
Olafsdottir started her day with nine bogey-free holes, which included a pair of birdies on 15 and 18. After a bogey on hole five, she birdied nine for an even 36 on the front nine. She had a two on the 13th to close her opening 18. To start her second round, the Iceland native rattled off 16 more bogey-free holes in a row, including birdies on 11 and 15. Her 69-71-140 put her in a tie for second with 18 to play.
In her first time competing for the team score, Adrienne Rohwedder shot 77-72-149. In the first round, the Carthage transfer birdied four, eight and 14. In the afternoon, she used a bogey-free front nine to finish day one in a tie for 18th. She had back-back birdies on three and four, then another on 10.
Arny Dagsdottir shot a career-best 74 in her opening round, dropping birdies on six and eight. She had 12 pars to go with the birdies for the 2-over 74. After making the turn for the afternoon, she birdied the 469-yard 15th. She got another birdie putt to go on hole one, then turned in five more pars to finish the day. She sits in a tie for 43rd after 36 holes.
Natalie Papa was also playing for the team score for the first time on Monday. Thanks to three birdies, she shot an opening round 75, a season-best for the freshman. In round two, she shot a 79, with birdies on eight and 13. Her 154 ties her with Dagsdottir for 43rd.
Luiza Caetano shot 80-79-159. She had birdies on eight and 14 in round one, then dropped another on nine in round two. Laura Caetano and Taylor Norman played as individuals, shooting 77-75-152 (T-34) and 80-76-156 (T-52), respectively.
The final round of the Cardinal Classic will tee off at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start on Tuesday (Sept. 20).
