SIU Defeats Purdue Fort Wayne by the Minimum 2-1

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois defeated Purdue Fort Wayne 2-1 in a women's soccer match which featured 10 combined shots on goal.
The Mastodons were the first on the board with a goal in the 14th minute. Mackenzie Evans delivered a strike from 20 yards into the upper corner of the goal. She now has a team-high four goals on the season.
SIU tied it in the 33rd minute when McKinley Stiff scored on a lofted ball from 25 yards out. It stayed 1-1 until after halftime. That is when SIU went up for good. Kaitlin DuCharme scored in the 58th minute.
Zoe Greenhalge finished with a team-high three shots for the 'Dons.
The 'Dons fall to 2-2-2. SIU improves to 2-0-0. The Mastodons return to action on Friday (Sept. 9) at Valparaiso.
