10/13/2023 8:07:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Panna Ratkai recorded 22 kills in a three-set loss at Northern Kentucky on Friday night (Oct. 13), which ties the fifth-most in a three-set match in Purdue Fort Wayne's women's volleyball history.
Ratkai's 22 kills tied her season-best, but she did it on Friday in just three sets. The other two times she reached that mark were in five-set matches. Her 22 kills at NKU came on an efficient .304 hitting percentage.
The Norse went up 9-2 early on in set one to take a lead they never relinquished. The 'Dons had a late charge to bring it within one at 22-21, but NKU took the last three points. In set two, the 'Dons led 12-10 before NKU went on a 9-1 run to go up 19-13. The two teams traded points the rest of the way for the home team to take a 2-0 lead.
Purdue Fort Wayne went to what had been working in set three and nearly won the set entirely behind the arm of Ratkai. She had 10 kills in the final frame, including all four in a 4-1 stretch midway through. The 'Dons led 21-20, but NKU had a 5-1 push over the final six points. The one point for the Mastodons fittingly came on a kill from Ratkai.
NKU won the serving battle with 13 aces. The Norse were led by 11 kills from Ava Hoying.
LonDynn Betts had a match-high 14 digs.
The Mastodons fall to 7-13, 2-6 Horizon League while NKU improves to 10-9, 5-3. Purdue Fort Wayne is back in action on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 14) at Wright State at 4 p.m.
