Mastodons Sweep Green Bay in Pink Out Contest

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne swept Green Bay on Saturday (Oct. 21) with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-23 victory on the Arnie Ball Court.
Panna Ratkai continued her dominant stretch of play with 21 kills against the Phoenix. Taya Haffner distributed the ball at an elite level, dishing out 41 assists and leading the 'Dons to a .299 hitting percentage. Jena Medearis had 10 kills with a .471 hitting percentage and Ashby Willis added nine kills. Abby Stratford had a solid match as well with six kills on 18 swings from the right side.
For the week, Ratkai averaged an eye-popping 7.00 kills and 7.94 points per set. Not to be discounted, Taya Haffner had 100 assists for 12.50 per set.
Green Bay led 14-11 in set one, but the Mastodons had four points in a row with three kills coming from Haffner, Medearis and Ratkai. Knotted at 22, Willis had two kills and Stratford had one to take the set. Ratkai had six kills in set one.
This continued in set two, as Ratkai had seven error-less swings. As a team, the 'Dons hit a scorching .464 with just one error. The 'Dons were up 19-17 before going on a 5-1 run to line up set point. The Phoenix turned away two set points, but Ratkai had a kill to take set two.
The Mastodons went to their best player in Ratkai in set three. She had 23 swings and converted for eight kills. After trading points and mini-runs to start 9-9, the 'Dons rattled off six points in a row. Ratkai had two kills and a block in this stretch. Green Bay got it close for the remainder of the set. At 23-all, Ratkai got a kill then Stratford and Kennedy McCants combined for a block on match point.
Hanna Vanden Berg had 16 kills for Green Bay.
The Mastodons improves 8-15, 3-8 in the Horizon League and Green Bay falls to 9-14, 7-4 Horizon. The 'Dons are back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 24) at Oakland.
