Three Earn Double-Digit Kills in 3-1 Loss to YSU

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne fell 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22) to Youngstown State in a Horizon League match on Friday (Oct. 6) at the Gates Sports Center on the Arnie Ball Court.
Panna Ratkai finished with 16 kills, 11 digs and a career-high six aces. Ashby Willis had 11 kills and two aces. Joanna Larsen finished with a career-high 11 kills. Taya Haffner had a double-double of 46 assists and 11 digs.
Ratkai's six aces were the most for a Mastodons since Nicole Jones had six against Robert Morris last season. That mark is also top-10 in program history in four-set matches.
Purdue Fort Wayne hit .394 in the opening set victory. Serving was key as Ratkai had four aces in the frame. Ashby Willis closed the set with an ace for point 25.
YSU scored the final five points of set two to rally from a 23-21 deficit to take the frame. Jazmin Vergara and Abbie Householder each had six kills in the set. Earlier in the frame, the 'Dons scored five in a row to go up 14-9. They held this lead until YSU's late push.
The 'Dons flipped point 15 in set three thanks to a successful challenge. It put the 'Dons up 15-14 at the media timeout. But in the end, the Penguins used a 6-2 end to the set to break a 19-all tie. YSU would take that momentum into the fourth to clinch the match.
Vergara had a match-high 21 kills for the Penguins.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 6-12, 1-5 Horizon League while Youngstown State improves to 7-11, 2-5. The Mastodons are back in action on Saturday (Oct. 7) when they host Robert Morris at 4 p.m.
