
Mastodons Fall at San Francisco for First Loss of Season

SAN FRANCISCO - The longest unbeaten streak to start a season in the NCAA Division I era of the Mastodon men's basketball program history came to an end on Wednesday (Nov. 22) at the hands of the San Francisco Dons 76-60 in non-league action.
The lead went back-and-forth in the first 20 minutes. Five straight points put the 'Dons up 15-13 with under 10 minutes left in the first half. USF went to the half up 28-22 after scoring the final five points of the half.
USF was ahead 41-32 in the second half, only to see the 'Dons score six straight and make it a one-possession game once again at 41-38 with 12:47 left. USF pushed it to eight points again, before Maximus Nelson drained a 3-pointer to make it a 50-45 game with 9:08 left. USF took their first double-digit lead of the game at 58-48 with just under seven minutes left. It was part of a stretch that saw San Francisco make eight consecutive baskets to put the game away.
Anthony Roberts led the 'Dons with 16 points. He also added seven rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Jalen Jackson also hit double-digits with 12.
San Francisco, picked third in the West Coach Conference behind Saint Mary's and Gonzaga, were led offensively by Ryan Beasley's 20 points.
USF outrebounded the 'Dons 47-23, leading to 16 second chance points for USF.
San Francisco improves to 4-2. The Mastodons are now 5-1.
The Mastodons return to action on Saturday (Nov. 25) in a 7 p.m. tip against Wittenberg at the Gates Sports Center.
