Purdue Fort Wayne Cruises to 86-63 Victory Over Bethune-Cookman

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Five Mastodons scored in double-figures in Purdue Fort Wayne men's basketball's 86-63 win over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday (Dec. 16). The 'Dons limited the Wildcats to just six field goals in the second half.
Jalen Jackson led the 'Dons with 17 points. Anthony Roberts and Quinton Morton-Robertson each added 15 while Rasheed Bello and Eric Mulder each had 12. The Mastodons shot 51.9 percent from the field and hit 12 threes in the win. The 'Dons held Bethune-Cookman to just three triples including just one three in the second half.
The Wildcats led for most of the first half, but Roberts led the 'Dons on a 10-0 run to close out the half and let Purdue Fort Wayne take a 45-39 lead into the locker room.
The Mastodons never trailed in the second half and outscored Bethune-Cookman 41-24. The 'Dons limited B-CU to 6-of-23 in the second half (26.1 percent). Jackson led the 'Dons with nine in the half and Roberts added eight, including an emphatic steal and slam dunk that helped set the tone early in the half.
The home team's defense also played a part in their 23-point victory. The 'Dons totaled 13 steals and turned those into 23 points while only surrendering four steals and six points off turnovers to their opponent. Roberts led the team with five steals while Mulder (3) and Bello (2) also added multiple steals.
Mulder had eight rebounds with Roberts and Maximus Nelson each pulling down seven boards. Roberts also finished with five assists. Mulder is 11-of-11 over his last two games.
Bethune-Cookman's Dhashon Dyson led all scorers with 22 points.
The win is the Mastodons' 20th consecutive home non-league victory.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 11-1 and Bethune-Cookman falls to 5-5. It's the first time Purdue Fort Wayne has reached 11-1 since the 1988-89 season. The Mastodons travel to face Pittsburgh on Wednesday (Dec. 20) for their final non-league matchup of the regular season.
