Mastodon WBB Finishes on 12-0 Run, Beats Milwaukee 65-55 to Move to 3-0 in HL

MILWAUKEE - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team moved to 3-0 in Horizon League play on Saturday (Dec. 30) after finishing its game at Milwaukee on a 12-0 run to win 65-55.
The Mastodon defense locked down Milwaukee for the final four minutes while scoring 12 points of their own. Destinee Marshall hit a jumper to tie the game at 55, then Amellia Bromenschenkel added a layup a minute later. Then, Ryin Ott delivered the back-breaking triple from the top of the key from Audra Emmerson to go up five with under two minutes to go. From there, three free throws from Bromenschenkel and two from Sellers iced the win.
It was the Mastodons' first-ever win at Milwaukee.
Immediately preceding the final 12-0 run from the 'Dons, there was a stretch of over five minutes where neither team missed a shot. The two teams were a combined 10-of-10 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
Bromenschenkel was the Mastodons' best player on Saturday, recording a stat line of 14 points, nine rebounds, five assists, a block and a steal. Four of her rebounds were offensive.
The 'Dons had 21 points off the bench: 11 from Ott, six from Sydney Graber, two from Jazzlyn Linbo and two from Erin Woodson.
After Milwaukee took a two-point lead into halftime, the 'Dons came out of the locker room with a 7-0 run. Renna Schwieterman and Sellers made a layup each and Marshall drilled a 3-pointer.
The Mastodons had just eight turnovers, matching a season-low.
There were 10 ties and six lead changes.
Milwaukee's Kendall Nead had a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds.
The Mastodons finishing with a 38.6 shooting percentage (22-of-57) while Milwaukee was a step lower at 38.2 percentage (21-of-55). The 'Dons were 14-of-16 (87.5 percent) from the charity stripe.
Over the last five games, the 'Dons are 82.1 percent from the line (64-of-78). They have also made double-digit free throws in all but the season opener.
Purdue Fort Wayne improved to 9-4 and 3-0 in the Horizon League. Milwaukee's loss moved the Panthers to 7-7, 1-2. The Mastodons will head upstate to play Horizon League favorite Green Bay on New Year's Day at 2 p.m. ET.
