LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Kasey Lilly led the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team to a 290 team score on the opening day of the Mickey Mouse Intercollegiate on Sunday (Feb. 19). The 'Dons are in a tie for third with two rounds to play.

The Mastodons are tied with Morehead State for third. Lilly had a very steady round, firing a 2-under 70 to control fourth place. After starting his round par, par, bogey, Lilly was 3-under the rest of the way. After the bogey, he rattled off six pars in a row to wrap up the back nine. After making the turn, he eagled hole one, then had five pars in a row before another eagle on seven. He was the only player in the field with two eagles on Sunday, and one of only six players to have even one.

Burke Pitz had a bogey-free back nine en route to an even 72. He is in a tie for 18th. He had nine-straight pars on the back nine to start his round, then had back-to-back birdies to start the front. He dropped in another on eight to set up an even front nine.

Hunter Mefford and Nick Holder both shot 74 to tie for 35th and round out the team score. Mefford had three birdies in a four-hole stretch from 13 to 16. He started off the front with a birdie on one as well. Holder had two birdies that came on one and 11. He had nine bogey-free holes in a row from 13 to three.

Jadden Ousley carded a 79 in round one thanks to an even 36 on the front. He had a birdie on seven to even out the bogey on two. He also had five pars on the back nine.

The Mastodons had the second-best average on par 3s in the field with an average of 3.05. IUPUI was the only team that was better at 2.95.

Purdue Fort Wayne's 290 was just five shots off the lead held by Wofford. The 'Dons are ahead of 13th-place IUPUI, the only other Horizon League team in the field. Jaguar Taylor Gardner is leading the field with a first-round 67.

The second round of the Mickey Mouse Intercollegiate tees off tomorrow (Monday, Feb. 20) in the morning.
