Mastodons Finish Runner-Up at NKU Jewell Invitational

BATAVIA, Ohio - Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf took second at the NKU Jewell Invitational on Tuesday (April 11) after one of the best tournament performances in program history.
The Mastodons shot 296-282-281-859, which is eighth-best in program history. The host Norse took the team crown with an 848.
Kasey Lilly finished third in the 84-team field with a 68-75-67-210. This tied his best tournament score of the season and first top-five of the season. In his final round of the weekend, he shot 4-under on the front nine. He had four birdies in the five-hole stretch from five to nine. He was even on the back nine with seven pars and a birdie on hole 18. This is Lilly's 14th top-10 finish of his career and eighth top-five.
Burke Pitz joined Lilly in the top-10 76-68-70-214. This is the second top-10 of his career with the ninth-place finish. Pitz was 2-under on the front with birdies on holes five and nine with seven pars. He had birdies on 13 and 15 to go 3-under before finishing with a 1-under 70.
Hunter Mefford was also 4-under on the front nine on Tuesday and finished with a 3-under 68. He tied for 17th with his 76-73-68-217. He had four birdies and five pars on the front. His birdies came on holes three, six, seven and nine. He was 5-under when he birdied 11.
Reece Compton had his score taken on Tuesday with a 76. He was even on the back nine with a birdie on hole 11. He finished in 51st with a 76-74-76-226.
Nick Holder finished four shots ahead of Compton, shooting 76-67-79-222. He started the day with five pars in a row then birdied hole seven.
Jadden Ousley played as an individual, turning in a 72-71-73-216 to tie for 14th.
Purdue Fort Wayne beat Horizon League schools Robert Morris, Cleveland State, Youngstown State and Detroit Mercy. The Mastodons will rematch with those four, Northern Kentucky and the four league schools that were not at the Jewell in just two weeks when they play for a Horizon League Championship in Florida.
