
10 'Dons Named to 2023 CSC Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-District Team

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – 10 Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons have been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Track & Field/Cross Country Teams.
The teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. To qualify, honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. All-District honorees move on to Academic All-America® consideration.
Kai Auernheimer (Nuremberg, Bavaria,Germany / Neues Gymnasium Nuremberg / Technische Hochschule Nuremberg) had a 4.00 GPA. He earned the department's Academic Excellence Award for best senior GPA for a student-athlete. He won the heptathlon during the 2023 Horizon League Indoor Championships with a school-record 4477 points. The senior finished seventh in the decathlon at the Outdoor Championships this year. He also took fourth in the javelin with a PR of 54.73 meters.
Nathan Mills (Columbia City, Ind. / Columbia City) has a 3.92 GPA. During the cross country campaign, the junior earned spots on each of the three top 10 lists. His 5K (15:44.0) and 10K (32:25.0) times both rank fourth. He ran the 8K in 25:22.9 to rank eighth.
Nicholas Mills (Columbia City, Ind. / Columbia City) finished with a 3.91 GPA. The junior took 12th in the 5,000 meters and 13th in the 10,000 meters at the 2023 league outdoor event. He set PRs in the 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 meters during the outdoor season and the mile, 800 and 3,000 meters in the indoor season. His mile time finished as a school record (4:14.80). During the cross country season, he set PRs in the 5K, 8K and 10K. His 8K best ranks fourth in school history (25:08.3) and his 10K time is fifth (32:35.0).
Kehinde Oladapo (Indianapolis, Ind. / Pike) totaled a 3.78 GPA. During the cross country season, he set two new PRs to earn a pair of spots on the program's top 10 list. His 5K time ranks ninth (16:17.37) and his 8K time ranks 10th (25:32.0). The junior earned points for the 'Dons in the 800 meters at the league outdoor meet with a time of 1:57.17.
Braxton Trittipo (Fortville, Ind. / Mount Vernon) recorded a 3.76 GPA. He was sixth in the 400 at the 2023 outdoor league meet while helping the 'Dons take second in the 4x400 relay and fourth in the 4x100 relay. Trittipo, a senior, finished the outdoor season with school records in the 200 meters (22.00), 400 meters (47.84) and 4x100 relay (42.11). The indoor season saw Trittipo set school records in the 400 and 4x400 relay. He finished third at the league indoor meet in the 400 and second in the 4x400 relay.
Brayden Langdon (Van Wert, Ohio / Lincolnview) put together a perfect 4.00 GPA, earning the athletic department's Academic Excellence Award for best senior student-athlete GPA. In the track and field season, she set PRs in the 200 (28.10) and the 400 (1:03.33) at Indiana Tech's outdoor meet. In the indoor season she took third in the 800 at the Mastodon Invitational (2:25.10). During the cross country season, she set new PRs in the 5K (23:57.0) and the 6K (26:53.6).
Makaila Groves (Slinger, Wis. / Slinger) turned in a 3.94 GPA. She served as the president of the Mastodon Student Athlete Leadership Team in 2022-23. She set a PR in the 800 at the 2023 Horizon League Outdoor Championships, taking 12th (2:16.55). Earlier in the outdoor season the senior lowered her PR in the 400 to 1:01.91. She helped the 'Dons win the 4x400 at the Mastodon Opener in December and won the 800 at Indiana Tech's meet in December.
Abbigail Garwood (Granger, Ind. / Penn) has a 3.91 GPA. She earned a podium finish in the shotput at the 2023 Horizon League Outdoor Championships with a mark of 12.25 meters for eighth. She set an indoor PR in the shotput during the 2023 Mastodon Invitational, taking first with a throw of 12.97 meters. The junior also won the shotput at the 2022 Mastodon Opener (12.54 meters).
Sophia Buck (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) turned in a 3.81 GPA. She was fourth in the heptathlon at the 2023 Horizon League Outdoor Championships with a career-best point total of 4408. Buck took fifth in the pentathlon at the league indoor meet with 3239 points. Combined during her 2023 track season the senior set six new personal bests.
Miranda Haney (Parker City, Ind. / Monroe Central) compiled a 3.72 GPA. She finished eighth at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships in the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters. The senior won the high jump (1.65 meters) at Indiana Tech's meet on April 7. During the indoor campaign she won the high jump at the Mastodon Invitational (1.68 meters).
