'Dons Host Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational Presented by Hyatt Place

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team is set to host the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational presented by Hyatt Place this weekend with Miami (OH), SIUE and Valparaiso coming to the Gates Sports Center.

Know Your Foes
• Miami picked up its third win of the season in the finale of the Illinois State Invitational. The five set win over Illinois State marks their second road victory of the season.
• SIUE won two of three matches at their own Cougar Classic last weekend. With wins over Idaho and Milwaukee, the Cougars improved to 3-6 on the season.
• Valparaiso boasts a 6-4 record so far this year after going 1-2 last weekend at the Stacheville Challenge. The Beacons have won all three home games this season but have lost all three road games.

• Purdue Fort Wayne is 3-4 against Miami all-time, but have only met once since 2010. The RedHawks won the most recent meeting in 2015 in three sets.
• The Mastodons lead the all-time series with SIUE 12-3 and have won six of the last eight meetings dating back to 1998. The Cougars took the last match up in 2021.

Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball redshirt-freshman Panna Ratkai became the first Horizon League player this season to be selected as one of the Horizon League Players of the Week for the second straight week. Ratkai recorded three double-doubles over the weekend, including performances of 17 kills and 15 digs against Kent State, 22 kills and 13 digs at Niagara, and 19 kills and 14 digs at Canisius.
Seeing Double
Five 'Dons posted double digit digs in last weekend's win over Canisius. LonDynn Betts led the team with 25, Panna Ratkai added 14, Maggie Casteman had 13, Nicole Jones had 12, and Becky Barrett had 11.
Hitting the Mark
The 'Dons boast the Horizon League's second highest hitting percentage of .236, trailing Milwaukee with .242. Purdue Fort Wayne ranks 95th nationally with that hitting percentage and ranks 28th nationally with 437 kills.
A Lot of Assists
Purdue Fort Wayne is 21st in the nation with 448 assists, an average of 12.11 pet set. Taya Haffner leads the team with 354 assists this season, the second-most in the Horizon League and an average of 8.81 per set.
Three's Company
Three players hit double-digit kills for the Mastodons in the win over Canisius last Saturday. Panna Ratkai led the team with 19, Maggie Castleman also had 14, and Jena Medearis added 12.
Early Season Tournaments
The Mastodons play their fourth straight weekend tournament this weekend. Purdue Fort Wayne faced Oklahoma, Gonzaga and Ball State at the Ball State Invitational. Last weekend, the Mastodons matched up with Stony Brook, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Manhattan at the Red Flash Classic. Last weekend, the 'Dons square off with Kent State, Niagara and Canisius at the Ellicott Hotels Western New York Invitational. Finally, The 'Dons return home this weekend (September 15 and 16) to host the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational Presented by Hyatt Place for matches against Miami (OH), SIUE and Valparaiso.

The Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational Presented by Hyatt Place will be the first of 12 home matches at Gates Sports Center. The Mastodons saw more than half of their wins last season come at home. The 'Dons will wrap up their homestand on Tuesday against Oakland in their Horizon League opener.
Digging It
LonDynn Betts totaled more than 20 digs twice last weekend. Betts had 21 digs against Kent State and added a season-high 25 digs in a five set win over Canisius. As a team, the 'Dons posted a season-high 83 digs in that win over Canisius.
Horizon Leaders
Panna Ratkai currently leads the conference in points and kills. Ratkai has 163.5 points this season, the 11th best total in the country. She's also totaled 144 kills, the 13th-best total in the country.
Familiar Faces
Abby Stratford will face her old team of Miami for the first time on Friday. Stratford played three years for the RedHawks and appeared in 59 matches and averaged a career-best 2.03 kills per set in 2022.
1000 Program Wins
The Mastodons won their 1000th match in the program's 47-year history on Saturday. The 'Dons moved up to Division I in 2001 and have won 378 matches in DI play since then.
Last Time Out
Purdue Fort Wayne took two of three matches last weekend at the Western New York Invitational. After dropping a neutral site clash with Kent State, the 'Dons won both road games at Niagara and Canisius.
