Mastodons Shut Out Cleveland State, Stay Unbeaten at Home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team shut out Cleveland State 1-0 on Thursday night (Sept. 21) at the Hefner Soccer Complex to stay unbeaten at home.
The Mastodons are undefeated at the Hefner Soccer Complex over the last 15 games, which dates back to October 27, 2021. This is the eighth-longest active home unbeaten streak in the nation.
With the win, Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 5-3-3, 2-0-1 in the Horizon League. The Mastodons are in sole possession of second place in the table for the moment.
Thursday's win was Purdue Fort Wayne's sixth shutout of the season, chasing the program record of eight set last season with seven regular season games to play. Samantha Castaneda now owns 16 career shutouts, extending her program-leading record. She is one of two keepers in the league to allow just one goal in Horizon League action.
Morgan Reitano scored the game-winning goal for the Mastodons, knocking in a corner kick sent in from Morgan Gallagher in the 70th minute. Reitano moved into sixth place in the all-time scoring list for the Mastodon women's soccer program, recording the 13th goal of her career.
The Mastodons had several dangerous chances, registering 12 shots and five on-goal. The Vikings was pesky offensively as well, particularly in the second half. They had seven of their 11 shots in the second half. CSU had six shots on-frame, but Castaneda came up with saves on all six. This included one diving to the top left corner to swat away a hard-struck chance.
After Reitano's goal in minute 70, the Mastodon defense did not allow a shot on goal. Of the defensive quartet, Lizzie Haub played 83 minutes, Karley O'Leary played 81, Allison Adams played 73 and Isabelle Wissel played 64. Castaneda played all 90 between the sticks.
Cleveland State falls to 3-6-1, 0-2-1, while the 'Dons stay unbeaten in Horizon League play.
