FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A group of passionate Purdue Fort Wayne alumni & community members have launched Dons For Fort Wayne, the official Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) entity to benefit Purdue Fort Wayne student-athletes and the Fort Wayne community. An integral part of Dons for Fort Wayne is to connect our student-athletes with community service and community engagement opportunities within our city.
"We are grateful for the partnership with SANIL and the members of our community who lead Dons For Fort Wayne so that Mastodon student-athletes can maximize potential NIL opportunities," said Director of Athletics, Kelley Hartley Hutton. "This place for students to connect with local business alongside the community service and engagement component speaks to the Mastodon core values too,"
Working in tandem with industry-leading Student-Athlete Name, Image and Likeness (known as "SANIL"), Dons For Fort Wayne will leverage the collective power of the alumni, fans, and local businesses to help Purdue Fort Wayne student-athletes excel during and beyond their time at Purdue Fort Wayne. SANIL is not officially affiliated with Purdue Fort Wayne Athletics but is acknowledged by the department and will operate within NCAA, and Indiana parameters to enhance opportunities for Purdue Fort Wayne student-athletes.
More importantly, Dons For Fort Wayne seeks to help student-athletes maximize their NIL opportunities the right way, without compromising the values of Dons For Fort Wayne and the legacy of all those who have donned the Black, Gold, and Blue in the past.
"I am so grateful for the support of our community and alums that are rolling up their sleeves to help our program navigate the evolving NIL landscape the right way," said Jon Coffman, Head Men's Basketball Coach. "We are excited to announce the launch of Dons for Fort Wayne, supporting Purdue Fort Wayne's Men's Basketball, which emphasizes and encourages Community Engagement. The Dons supporters behind the initiative align with my vision for our program! These supporters love Fort Wayne and see the success of both our university and our basketball program as vital to the continued upward trajectory of our city."
Dons For Fort Wayne will allow businesses, donors and members to support and engage with their favorite teams and student-athletes, or contribute to a general fund that supports student-athletes across all sports. Student-athletes may engage in a variety of opportunities, including personal appearances, meet-and-greets, charitable work, speaking engagements, and commercial sponsorship through Dons For Fort Wayne.
As with all NIL entities, Dons For Fort Wayne is independent from Purdue Fort Wayne, and the University does not receive any financial benefit from Dons For Fort Wayne. NCAA rules allow alumni, fans and other donors to compensate student-athletes through the Collective, but such compensation:
Dons For Fort Wayne, in conjunction with SANIL's Student Athlete Empowerment ("SAE") program, will facilitate NIL transactions between Purdue Fort Wayne Student-Athletes and fans, donors, and businesses. SANIL is the most experienced end-to-end NIL solution provider in the country and trusted by more than thirty Universities to manage NIL programs between interested third parties and student-athletes.
SANIL's Student Athlete Empowerment and Dons For Fort Wayne work in unison with various University supporters to create marketing activations that maximize student-athlete earnings while ensuring that the university's best interests remain protected throughout. Purdue Fort Wayne joins a client roster that includes Georgia Tech, Hawaii, Loyola Marymount, Oklahoma, Rutgers, Santa Clara, and Wake Forest, among others.

"We are excited to begin the necessary work to raise money to benefit PFW student-athletes and our community as a whole. Purdue Fort Wayne is the only Division I athletic program in our community and we need to support it. In order for Purdue Fort Wayne to continue to compete in the current athletic environment, we, as a community, must engage in raising money under the new Name, Image and Likeness rules. We are doing so in a way that will grow the University's profile by increasing our success on the court as well as providing a mechanism for student-athletes to expand their efforts to provide community service and engagement. This is a true win-win. Dons For Fort Wayne will benefit both our community and Purdue Fort Wayne. The collective will assist Purdue Fort Wayne athletic programs to become more competitive while giving back to the community and allowing PFW to attract the best and brightest student-athletes possible. - Pat Murphy, Co-Director of Dons for Fort Wayne
