Mastodons Edge Penguins 71-69 in Road #HLMBB Contest

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Purdue Fort Wayne earned a 71-69 road Horizon League win at Youngstown State on Wednesday (Jan. 7) evening. All 10 Mastodons that saw the court scored in the game. Eight Mastodons made a 3-pointer.
The two teams were tied at 42 at half. EJ Mosley, Yuval Levin, Mason Shrout and Chris Morgan each had a 3-pointer off the bench in the first half.
Purdue Fort Wayne scored seven straight points to take a 68-62 lead with 4:47 remaining. A Maximus Nelson 3-pointer capped the stretch and forced a Youngstown State timeout. The Penguins tied it at 69 on an Imanuel Zorgvol dunk with 54 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Mikale Stevenson grabbed a Corey Hadnot II miss with 37 seconds left to give the Mastodons a second-chance opportunity. Hadnot was fouled with three seconds on the shot clock and 22 seconds left in the game. Hadnot made both free throws, which ended up being the difference in the game. Cris Carroll's 3-point attempt for YSU with three seconds left was off the mark.
The Mastodons shot 22-of-53 (41.5 percent), making 10-of-24 from three. Youngstown State shot 25-of-60 (41.7 percent) in the contest. Carroll led the Penguins with 14 points.
Hadnot had 14 points for the 'Dons, to go with five assists and four rebounds. Stevenson had 13 points and six rebounds.
