Mastodon MBB Adds Justin Brown to Coaching Staff

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne men's basketball head coach Jon Coffman announced that Justin Brown has joined the Mastodon program as Assistant Coach - Director of Recruiting & Community Engagement.
"I'm excited to have Justin join our staff," Coffman said. "He is a veteran coach with recruiting connections in areas that we have had past success, particularly junior college, Chicago and Texas. He has a reputation for building strong relationships with players and recruits, and I believe his strengths and personality make him an ideal fit with our staff. I'm excited for Justin to direct and organize our recruiting efforts and bring his on-court expertise from having worked with a number of different coaches and programs at our level."
Brown comes to Purdue Fort Wayne after spending two years in Muncie as an assistant coach for Ball State. Brown worked closely with the Ball State guards, including Jermahri Hill, who was named Honorable Mention All-MAC following the 2024-25 season. Hill averaged 15.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game in his first season in Muncie while leading the league in free throw attempts (207). Brown arrived in Muncie in 2024 after serving three seasons at Pacific as an assistant. He was also on staff at Eastern Illinois for three seasons (2018-21). Overall, the Chicago native has 15 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
A guard on NCAA Division II Southwest Baptist University who played on back-to-back Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championship teams in 2008 and 2009, Brown joined the coaching staff at his alma mater for the 2009-10 campaign. He returned to his hometown in 2010-11 to be the boys' basketball coach at Perspective Charter High School.
Brown also spent four seasons on the coaching staff at South Plains Junior College and three at Utah State University-East Utah in his time on the sidelines.
Brown and the Mastodons will open the season with an exhibition against Purdue on October 22 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
