Pair of Freshmen Notch Double-Doubles in Loss to Kent State

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Panna Ratkai and Ashby Willis recorded double-doubles in Friday afternoon's (Sept. 8) match between Purdue Fort Wayne and Kent State. The Golden Flashes took the match 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 25-20, 26-24).
Ratkai finished the match with 17 kills and 15 digs for her third double-double of the season. Willis pitched in 10 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double off the bench. Iris Riegel added 10 kills.
The opening set went to Kent State after the Golden Flashes Rattled off a 9-0 run. The Mastodons cut the lead down to two after a 6-1 stretch that was capped off by a kill from Ratkai, but KSU responded with a 5-0 run of its own.
In set two, the 'Dons had a 7-0 run that included an ace from Ratkai. The 'Dons forced the Golden Flashes into four attack errors in this stretch. Riegel and Taya Haffner got kills to finish off the set and even the match. The 'Dons held Kent State to a .026 hitting percentage.
It was another big Kent State run that pushed the third set toward the Golden Flashes. This time it was an 8-0 run that put them up 18-12. In set four, a late run by KSU gave them the match. The 'Dons were up 22-20, then Kent State rattled off six of the last eight.
LonDynn Betts led the Mastodon defense with 21 digs. Freshman Becky Barrett had a career-high 11 digs off the bench.
Kent State moved to 2-5. Purdue Fort Wayne goes to 3-4.
