Elite Defensive Outing Shuts Down RMU, 'Dons Blow Out Colonials

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Purdue Fort Wayne blew out Robert Morris 64-36 in a women's basketball contest on Saturday (Jan. 20). RMU's 36 points was the fewest a Division I program has ever scored against the Mastodons.
At the halfway mark of Horizon League play, Purdue Fort Wayne is 6-4 in the league. It is their best start to league play through 10 games since the 2010-11 season.
The Mastodons never trailed in Saturday's game. From the opening tip, the Mastodons blitzed RMU offensively. Jazzlyn Linbo won the tip then assisted on Amellia Bromenschenkel's 3-pointer. Two possessions later, Linbo rebounded on the defensive end and Audra Emmerson drained a triple off Bromenschenkel's assist. The next time up the court was exactly the same as the trio combined to give the Mastodons a 9-0 lead after three minutes of play. The 'Dons led 20-7 by the end of the first quarter when Bromenschenkel hit a fadeaway with six seconds left.
Midway into the second quarter, Audra Emmerson scored her 13th point on a driving layup, nearly matching RMU's point total of 16 at the time on her own. The 'Dons took a 23-point lead into halftime when Bromenschenkel scored six points in the final two minutes.
The Mastodon lead ballooned to as many as 30 in the third and fourth quarters on a few occasions before the Mastodons went deep into their bench.
Purdue Fort Wayne held Robert Morris to just four points in the final 10 minutes. The Colonials made two field goals coming at the 9:47 and 4:16 marks. They were scoreless for the final four minutes as the 'Dons held RMU to 2-for-17 (11.8 percent) from the floor and 0-for-6 from beyond the arc in the final quarter. The Colonials were a dreadful 21.4 percent from the floor and 0-for-8 from deep in the second half.
The Mastodons finished 21-of-55 (38.2) after going 15-of-27 (55.6) in the first half. Purdue Fort Wayne was 14-of-16 (87.5) from the charity stripe. The 'Dons won the rebounding battle 38-36. They also forced 19 RMU turnovers while committing just 11 of their own.
Emmerson led all scorers with 18 points. Linbo finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Bromenschenkel had 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Ten different Mastodons scored.
