FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Four Mastodons finished in double-figures on Wednesday (Jan. 31) night as Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball dropped their home tilt with Cleveland State 70-60.
Renna Schwieterman led the 'Dons with 11 points while Shayla Sellers, Amellia Bromenschenkel, and Jazzlyn Linbo each scored 10. Linbo approached a double-double with seven rebounds and Sellers led all players with six steals, her most since her freshman season. Lauryn Stover pitched in six points in nine minutes, her career-best against Division I foes.
Linbo scored four points as part of a 9-0 Mastodon run to open the game. But the Vikings made their next eight shots in a row in an 18-7 run to lead by four after the first period. The 'Dons held CSU without a three-point field goal in the second quarter and to their second-lowest percentage (18.2) in any game this season.
Bromenschenkel and Schwieterman each had five points in the third quarter, but CSU kept pace by shooting over 50 percent. Sellers had two steals in quick succession in the third and added two more in the fourth quarter. The 'Dons outscored CSU in the fourth 21-19 and only turned the ball over twice.
The Mastodons finished the game with 12 steals in their ninth double-digit steals performance of the season. They scored 15 points off of CSU's 17 turnovers.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 14-9 and 7-5 in the Horizon League. Cleveland State improves to 19-4, 10-2. The Mastodons renew their rivalry with IUPUI at the Gates Sports Center on Saturday (Feb. 3).
