FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Despite having just eight active players, Purdue Fort Wayne defeated IUPUI in a Horizon League women's basketball contest on Saturday (Feb. 3) 68-65.
All eight players that saw the floor scored at least three points. The three off the bench, Lauryn Stover, Sydney Graber and Klea Kaci, all played some of the best basketball of their careers. Graber and Kaci both matched their career-highs with 11 and nine points, respectively.
IUPUI led 24-19 midway through the second quarter before the Mastodons blitzed the Jaguars with a 20-4 run in the final 4:07. In this stretch, the Mastodons got nine points on three 3-pointers from Kaci and a triple from Stover. This was four of the five 3-pointers that the 'Dons hit in the opening 20 minutes.
After out-scoring the Jaguars 26-10 in the second quarter, the Mastodons were able to coast the rest of the way, never yielding the lead. They led by as many as 12 shortly into the third quarter.
IUPUI took an early 12-4 lead before the Mastodons rattled off a 7-0 run. Amellia Bromenschenkel scored four in a row then Graber forced a turnover that led to an Audra Emmerson 3-pointer.
