Shayla Sellers Scores Season-High at Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio - Shayla Sellers scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball fell to Wright State 70-66 on Saturday (Feb. 10).
It was a one-possession game in the final minute. Sellers drilled a 3-pointer with 1:08 left to cap off a 7-0 Mastodon run to bring it within two. The Mastodons got the stop they needed on the next possession, but did not secure the rebound to march down the court for a chance at the lead. From there, Wright State made five free throws to ice the game. Sellers scored her 23rd point on a 3-pointer in the final moments.
The Mastodons fell behind early on in the contest. The Raiders built up a 15-5 lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Mastodons completed the comeback with a 10-0 run, led by six points from Amellia Bromenschenkel and four from Sellers. The two teams were tied at 31 after 20 minutes.
After another 10 minutes, the 'Dons and Raiders were tied at 52. The Mastodons closed the quarter on a 7-2 push behind Klea Kaci. She scored a layup and hit a 3-pointer before the clock expired.
Purdue Fort Wayne finished 20-of-62 from the floor (32.3 percent) and 9-of-29 from 3-point range (31.0 percent). Wright State shot 24-of-57 from the field (42.1 percent) and 10-of-25 from three (40 percent). The Mastodons cut into the field goal difference with 17 makes from the free throw line. They forced the Raiders into 17 turnovers while committing just 12.
Sellers led all scorers with 23 points and nine boards while shooting 50 percent (8-of-16). Bromenschenkel had 14 points and eight boards. Jazzlyn Linbo finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 15-10, 8-6 while Wright State improves to 15-11, 9-6. The Mastodons will take the floor again on Thursday (Feb. 15) when they welcome Milwaukee.
