Mastodon WVB Drops League Match at Cleveland State

CLEVELAND - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball fell to Cleveland State on Saturday (Oct. 19) in a Horizon League match 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-21).
The first set was close throughout, featuring 12 ties and five lead changes. The Mastodons led 24-22 after a kill from Iris Riegel, but Cleveland State the next three to give themselves the advantage. Riley Rosneck turned away one set point with a kill, but CSU took two more points and won the frame. Panna Ratkai had six of her 13 kills in the opening frame.
The two teams were square at 15-all in set before Cleveland State worked through a 9-3 run that put them in full control of the set. The Vikings held Purdue Fort Wayne to .087 hitting in the second set while hitting .275 themselves.
The Mastodons reached the media timeout first in set three, leading 15-12 after a kill from Abby Stratford. The home team responded with an 11-3 push to go up 23-18. Rosneck had a pair of kills to hold off an immediate victory, but CSU got the two points it needed to end the match in three sets.
Ratkai finished with a double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs. LonDynn Betts had a match-high 18 digs.
Liberty Torres had 17 kills to lead CSU. The Vikings also had 10 blocks as a team.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 12-10, 5-4 in the HL, while Cleveland State improves to 14-6, 5-4. The Mastodons return home for two matches against Northern Kentucky next weekend.
