Ten Mastodons Earn Personal Bests at Joe Piane Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Ten Purdue Fort Wayne women's cross country runners set personal records at the Joe Piane Invitational on Friday (Oct. 4).
Riley Tate was the first Mastodon to cross the finish line, earning 14th with a time of 17:34.3. Ava Genovese placed 26th (17:56.9). Haylee Hile ran a time of 18:25.8 to finish 65th. Lydia Carrell placed 75th (18:33.3). Kynzlei Bassett topped off the the Purdue Fort Wayne top-5 finishing 85th (18:38.2).
Faith Allen ran a time of 18:47.2 to finish 93rd. Faith Norris placed 97th (18:52.3). Mercedes Sarver finished 121st (19:12.1).
After the 1K mark the Mastodons were in 14th place where the team slowly worked their way to 13th after 3K. Purdue Fort Wayne kept the pressure on the competetion and moved up to 11th by the end of the race. At each checkpoint of the race, all eight runners had improved their place.
Purdue Fort Wayne earned 262 points and an 11th place finish, leading all Horizon League competition. Youngstown State placed 12th (319), Cleveland State finished 19th (498), IU Indianapolis placed 20th (508) and Green Bay (Wis.) finished 22nd (592).
Three Mastodons raced in the Women's Open. Bella Hodges placed 97th (19:35.5). Haley Sponaugle (20:23.3) finished 105th and Amanda Williams (20:29.3) finished 107th as the freshmen completed their first collegiate 5K, setting new personal bests.
Purdue Fort Wayne runs next at the Bradley Pink Classic on October 18th.
