About the Course
Located just 10 minutes from downtown Charleston, "The Muni" sits on James Island, situated between the Stono River and historic Riverland Terrace, one of James Island's oldest neighborhoods. The Municipal Golf Course opened in 1929 on 120 acres of land, which was given to the City from Mr. C. Bissell Jenkins with the stipulation that the property always be a municipal golf course available for everyone. Today, nearly 90 years later, the Muni hosts over 50,000 rounds yearly, enjoying the company of men and women; boys and girls; residents and tourists; all who share a similar passion for golf and the company of good people. Simply put - The Muni is Everyone's Course.
Meet the Field
Samford, The Citadel, Wofford, Purdue Fort Wayne, Western Carolina, Tennessee Tech, Radford, Appalachian State.
Match Play Format
The match play tournament is seeded for the opening round based on national rankings. The No. 220 Mastodons will face off against No. 189 Wofford. No. 128 Samford and No. 265 The Citadel, No. 152 Western Carolina and No. 226 Tennessee Tech, and No. 157 Radford and No. 221 Appalachian State will be the other first-round matches. The following rounds will be in a bracket format, re-seeding in relation to rankings in the second round.
Mastodon Lineup
Anna Olafsdottir, Adrienne Rohwedder, Olivia Jang, Hunar Mittal and Natalie Papa will play the opening round match against Wofford.
Expectations Set
Purdue Fort Wayne was picked in a tie for fourth in the Horizon League Preseason Poll. This marks the highest the Mastodons have ever been selected in a league preseason poll. Fittingly, their fourth-place selection comes after the 'Dons tied their best finish at a league tournament last season, with a sixth-place finish at the Horizon League Championship.
Record Setters
The Mastodons set the program's 54-hole record at the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational on October 3. The 'Dons shot 901, topping the previous record by nine strokes.
Record Setters x 2
Purdue Fort Wayne's 307.3 four-player average this season is a program record. It is 13.1 strokes per round better than last season and 4.5 better than the previous best set in 2020-21.
Colder Than Gullfoss in Winter
Iceland native Anna Olafsdottir is shooting an average of 75.5 this season, which is the best in program history in a single season.
Runner-Up Vibes
Adrienne Rohwedder finished as the runner-up at the Braun Intercollegiate, the final tournament for the Mastodons in the fall. She shot 75-75-150, just one shot back of a tie for first place.
Last Fall Recap
The Mastodons had a pair of third-place finishes to wrap up the fall season, taking third at the Bradley Coyote Creek Classic and third at the Braun Intercollegiate.
Coming Up
Purdue Fort Wayne will head to Florida to play in the Sacred Heart Invitational on March 7-9.
