INDIANAPOLIS - For the fourth time, Kasey Lilly of the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team earned First Team All-Horizon League honors, while Hunter Mefford was selected as a co-winner of the new Horizon League Sportsmanship Award, the league announced on Tuesday (April 25).
Lilly was the best golfer in program history by any measure. He finished his career as the leader in career and season scoring average and win/loss percentage and holds the 18-hole, 36-hole and 54-hole records. He had 22 top-10s, 13 top-5s, and two wins. He owns the top-four single-season scoring marks. To cap off his fantastic career, Lilly had his career-best scoring average come in his final season. He shot an average of 70.81, with 22 of his 31 rounds this season at par or better. His season was highlighted by a 13-under performance at the World Golf Village Collegiate, at which he finished second and set a program record of 203. Most recently, he came in third at the Horizon League Championship, marking the third time he was an All-Tournament Team selection.
Aside from Lilly's four single-season marks, Mefford had the best season in Mastodon history this season while earning the first Horizon League Sportsmanship Award. He averaged 73.4 per round. He tied for second at the Sacred Heart Invitational in a 63-player field. Mefford shares the Sportsmanship Award with Kevin Tillery of IUPUI.
Lilly and Mefford graduate from the men's golf program as a part of the winningest class in program history and the first to win a league championship.
