Purdue Fort Wayne and Hunar Mittal Claim Runner-Up Finishes at Hammock Beach Invitational

PALM COAST, Fla. - For the first time in her career, Hunar Mittal earned a runner-up finish at the Hammock Beach Invitational on Friday (March 14).
The sophomore from India turned in a two-day total of 149, matching her best of the season. She finished one stroke behind Indiana State's Briana Lemaire. Mittal had a birdie on four to go 1-under over her first five holes. After some falling back a few strokes over the next nine holes, she finished strong with back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16 then pars on 17 and 18 to finish with a 78.
Natalie Papa earned a top-10 with a two-day total of 153. She had a 75 on Friday with nothing worse than a bogey. She birdied hole 15 to propel her to a tie for eighth.
Olivia Jang and Louise Ekesall tied each other for 10th place with a pair of 154s. Jang had a 77-77 and Ekesall had 79-75. Jang started and ended her day well, finding birdies on holes two and 18. She finished with 11 pars. Ekesall had four birdies with three on the front nine on three, four and eight. After moving to +4 for the day, in her last four holes, Ekesall was 1-under with a birdie on 16. Despite being the Mastodons' best score on Friday, Ekesall's score was not taken since she was playing as an individual.
Lillian Gottman took 23rd at the event with a two-round score of 160. She shot a 77 on Friday thanks to 12 pars and a birdie on 17.
Lara Dommach was two shots back of Gottman with a 162 to tie for 25th. Dommach took an 82 in round two, with the highlights of her round coming on holes six and 13, both birdies.
Lillie Cone also competed as an individual, firing an 86 in round two. She turned in birdies on holes nine, 13 and 17. Her 168 was good for sole possession of 30th place.
As a team, the Mastodons took second in their own event with a two-day total of 613. Indiana State won the event with a 601. The Mastodons will take on The Julie on March 23-24 as the defending champions of the tournament.
