'Dons Finish as #HLTF Indoor Championships Runner-Up

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track & field team closed the 2025 Horizon League Indoor Championships with the highest league meet finish in program history on Sunday (March 2) by finishing as runner-up. The Mastodons finished the two-day meet with three specialty awards, five event champions and four school records.
The Mastodons swept the freshman awards following the meet. Lillian Hurd was named Horizon League Freshman of the Year - Runner. Hurd was the 400 meter dash champion (56.86), a member of the 4x400 meter relay champion team and 200 meter dash runner-up (24.79). Amelie Mach was named Horizon League Freshman of the Year - Field after her sixth place finish in the pentathlon (3383 points) during day one of the meet (March 1).
Mastodons' coach Aaron Combs was named Horizon League Women's Coach of the Year after the second place finish at the championships, scoring 135 points. It is a nine-point improvement from last season's 126 points.
Senior Jordan Yanders finished as the 60 meter hurdles champion after a school-record time of 8.46. Freshman Jaliyah Page finished the event in eighth (8.94).
Ali Sparks picked up where she left off in day one, winning the shot put championship in back-to-back years after taking the weight throw title in day one. Her second attempt of 14.71 meters won the event, but her other three marks (14.12, 14.20 and 13.81) would have also placed first. Emery Carrico joined the podium for the event, taking fifth with a personal-record throw of 13.22 meters. Ellie Zagel also set a personal record, earning eighth with a mark of 12.77 meters.
The 4x400 meter relay squad of Sanayah Ruffin, Hurd, Marissa Van De Weg and Mach won their relay, holding a second and a half gap between the next opponent.
Jai Reed earned runner-up in the 60 meter dash, tying her own school record time (7.57). Aniya Young took sixth in the event with 7.68. Freshman Harmony Johnson also took the podium, placing seventh (7.72).
Ruffin also competed in the 400 meter dash, running a personal record 57.22 to take third. Madeline McClerren took the podium with an eighth place finish (1:01.36).
McClerren also ran a 25.06 in the 200 meter dash, earning third. Reed finished the event in seventh, running a time of 25.56.
Senior Louiza Kruiswijk broke her own school record in the triple jump, reaching a mark of 12.31 meters to place fourth. Freshman Kaylee Rogaczewski joined her on the podium, taking sixth in the event (11.73 meters).
Bella Hodges was the lone Mastodon to compete in the 800 meters. Her 2:14.32 time earned her fourth.
Riley Tate ran the 3000 meters in 9:45.82 to place sixth.
