'Dons Open Outdoor Season at Polar Bear Invite

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne track and field teams begin their outdoor season at Indiana Wesleyan for the Polar Bear Invite (March 21-22).

The Mastodon women's team earned 87 points in the poll, only behind Youngstown State (90), who collected nine first-place votes. The Mastodon men's team received 42 points, sitting behind Youngstown State (63), Milwaukee (56) and Oakland (47). The Penguins received seven first-place votes.
Last Time Out for the Women
The women's squad is fresh off their highest Horizon League Indoor Championships finish ever, taking runner-up on March 2. The 'Dons brought home both freshman awards for the indoor season, Lillian Hurd earning Horizon League Freshman of the Year - Runner and Amelie Mach being named Horizon League Freshman of the Year - Field. Six Mastodons left the meet as event champions: Hurd (400m), Ali Sparks (weight throw and shot put), Jordan Yanders (60m hurdles) and the 4x400 meter relay team (Sanayah Ruffin, Hurd, Marissa Van De Weg and Mach).
Last Time Out for the Men
The men's team finished fourth with 95 points, their highest point total in program history, in the Horizon League Indoor Championships (March 2). Ezra Lewellen took the title of 60 meter dash for the second year in a row. Jonas Morris left the meet as 400 meter dash champion. Jonas Morris also aided in the fastest 4x400 meter relay squad in the league, along with Lewellen, Cainen Northington and Noah Morris.

The Mastodons split up to take on the WashU Distance Carnival (March 27-28), hosted by Washington (Mo.), and Indiana State's Pacesetter Sports Invitational (March 29).
