'Dons Take First in Two Events at Polar Bear Invite

MARION, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field team had two first place finishers, Ali Sparks and Emery Carrico, at the first day of the Polar Bear Invite (March 21).
Sparks continued her tear in the throwing events, starting the outdoor season with a first place finish in the shot put (14.24 meters). Carrico threw 12.00 meters in the event, taking eighth.
Carrico also competed in the javelin throw, where she earned first place with a personal record mark of 35.38 meters. Freshman Emilia Russell threw her first collegiate javelin throw, finishing the day in second at 34.37 meters.
Freshman Amanda Williams ran her first collegiate 3000 meter steeplechase, placing third after a time of 13:09.91.
Kynzlei Bassett ran her first collegiate 5000 meters in 18:25.64 for seventh. Riley Tate completed the 5000 meters in 17:31.11, finishing in fifth. Faith Allen placed 19th in the event (19:23.42).
Scout Warner, Ellie Zagel, Aubrey Haas, Martia Williams, Makenna Dommer, McKayla Henry, Francesca Carlo, Hayma Ong, Lydia Carrell, Haylee Hile, Faith Norris, Ella Jenkins and Jaliyah Page will compete in day two of the Polar Bear Invite (March 22).
