'Dons in Second Through 18 Holes at NKU Spring Fling

VERO BEACH, Fla. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team finished its opening round of the NKU Spring Fling in second place on Saturday (March 8), behind only Big East foe St. John's.
The Mastodons shot 319 as a team and St. John's turned in a 314. The 'Dons finished nine strokes better than Northern Kentucky, the only other Horizon League school in the field.
Lara Dommach was the Mastodons' best on Saturday, shooting 79. She had a solid front nine with six pars and a birdie on hole four. The freshman birdied the 10th after making the turn, then finished her day even on her last three holes thanks to another birdie on 17.
Lillian Gottman, Natalie Papa and Hunar Mittal all shot 80 in round one and are tied for eighth. Gottman had two birdies and four pars on the front nine and three more pars on the back. Papa had nine pars, including four in a row to start the back nine, and a birdie on 17. Mittal turned in 10 pars and a birdie on hole four.
Olivia Jang shot 84 as the last competing for the team score. She had seven pars and a birdie on hole four.
Louise Ekesall and Lillie Cone competed as individuals, shooting 81 and 94, respectively.
The final round of the NKU Spring Fling will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday (March 9).
