'Dons Draw in Defensive Duel

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team concluded the season opener with a scoreless draw against Akron on Thursday (Aug. 14).
Junior Morgan Gallagher wasted no time, taking her first shot on goal less than three minutes into the season.
The Zips took control of the next 20 minutes, firing off four shots on goal within the span. Jordan Imes managed to deny each attempt, including a deflection that rang off the crossbar and out.
The 'Dons responded to end the half, started by another shot on goal from Gallagher. Freshman Daisy Moody tallied the second from the left that nearly popped out of the keeper's hands. Maci Toporcer took a final minute attempt at the goal, which was saved by the keeper.
Coming out of the break, Bethany Loveless stepped up with a team save. Moody attempted to capitalize on the save, firing off a shot on goal.
Akron controlled another 20 minute stretch in the second half, taking three shots on goal during that time. Imes rejected all three, diving to save the shot in the 76th minute.
Freshman Bella Masse finished the match with two shots on goal in the last 15 minutes, both saved by the keeper.

Imes recorded a shutout in the first match of the season, continuing her pace from last season when she finished with six on the season for second-most in program history.
Purdue Fort Wayne moves to 0-0-1 and Akron sits at 0-0-1. The Mastodons will begin a road trip through the remainder of August, starting at Chicago State on Wednesday (Aug. 20).~ Feel the Rumble ~
