Women's Soccer Falls to Chicago State

CHICAGO - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team dropped their first road game of the season 2-1 to Chicago State on Wednesday (Aug. 20).
The Mastodons opened the match applying pressure, earning three corner opportunities in the first eight minutes. Amanda Leonard took the first shot attempt of the match off the second corner chance.
Chicago State took advantage of a scrum in the box, finding an empty net in the 13th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Both teams fought for possession during the rest of the half, Daisy Moody's shot on goal in the 35th minute was the only shot opportunity during that stretch.
The Cougars fired out of the half with a corner kick and a free kick chance in the first 10 minutes of the second, both opportunities were rejected by keeper Jordan Imes.
The 'Dons controlled a 15 minute stretch in the match, firing off three shots on goal and landing the equalizer. Leonard took her second shot on goal of the match in the 67th minute to spark the Purdue Fort Wayne surge. Morgan Gallagher found an open net following a defensive lapse on the Chicago State back line, taking the strike from outside of the box in the 71st minute. Freshman Bella Masse backed up the Mastodon goal with another shot on goal in the 75th minute and Moody's attempt in the 82nd was her second of the match.
Chicago State answered with a quick shot on goal in the 83rd that led to the game winning goal, scored in the 84th minute.
Both teams took 10 shots during the match, but the 'Dons led with seven shots on goal compared to the Cougars' four.
Purdue Fort Wayne drops to 0-1-1 and Chicago State moves to 1-1-1. The Mastodons will play match two, of three, on their road stretch on Sunday (Aug. 24) at Valparasio.
