Women's Soccer Drops #HLWSOC Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team finished a goal behind Wright State on Thursday (Sept. 18) night. The Mastodons held their pink out game for their first Horizon League contest of the year, losing to the Raiders 1-0.
Cyann Retzloff had an early chance for the 'Dons in the ninth minute, weaving through defenders before eventually having her shot blocked.
Wright State controlled the offensive end for the remainder of the first half, leading 5-0 in shots on goal and 6-1 in corner kicks. The Raiders took attempts at the goal in the 12th and 23rd minute marks before their barrage, taking a shot on goal in the 38th, 39th and 40th minute.
The Raiders earned a penalty kick a dozen minutes after returning from half, scoring the game winning goal.
The 'Dons put together an offensive stretch in the 70th minute, starting with Scarlette Webster's shot at the goal. Kyra Posey took another chance just two minutes later, both were rejected by the keeper.
Wright State managed to subdue any potential Purdue Fort Wayne threats for the remainder of the match, tacking on another four shots on goal in the process.
The Raiders with a 10-2 shots on goal lead and 9-1 corner kick advantage over the Mastodons.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 1-7-1, 0-1-0 in Horizon League play, and Wright State climbs to 4-5-0, 1-0-0 in league contests. The Mastodons will travel to Milwaukee in a week (Sept. 25 for their first away Horizon League contest
