Robert Morris Takes Horizon League Opener From Mastodon WVB

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team fell to Robert Morris 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-23, 35-33) on Friday (Sept. 26) in the Horizon League opener on the Arnie Ball Court.
The Mastodons pounced on the Colonials with an early 7-2 lead. RMU clawed back to an 11-11 draw, then the two teams traded blows back and forth. RMU eventually led 21-19 before Becky Barrett served the 'Dons to a first-set victory. She had an ace in the 6-0 run.
The second set was all Robert Morris offensively, as the Colonials hit .323 while holding the 'Dons to .083.
The Mastodons improved in set three up to .122 hitting, but RMU's early lead was too much to overcome. The Colonials were up 23-15 before the 'Dons mounted an 8-1 run to put pressure on, but RMU got the final point to go up 2-1. Riley Rosneck had seven of her match-high 22 kills in the third set alone.
The fourth set was highlighted by 24 ties and nine lead changes. Rosneck and Rye combined for 11 of the Mastodons 17 kills in the frame. Purdue Fort Wayne and RMU both had multiple chances at set point, but ultimately Robert Morris won three points in a row to take the set 35-33.
Rosneck had 22 kills and 12 digs. Rye had 15 kills and nine digs. Meg Berkland and Barrett had 16 digs each, and Haiden Means had a double-double of 40 assists and 11 digs. Jocelyn Jourdan had 18 kills and 10 digs to lead Robert Morris.
Purdue Fort Wyane fell to 2-10, 0-1 in Horizon League play. Robert Morris improved to 5-7, 1-0. These two teams will clash again on Saturday (Sept. 27) at 2 p.m.
