'Dons Drop Two at EMU Tournament

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team fell in two matches on Thursday (Sept. 4) at the EMU Tournament.
Valparaiso 3, Purdue Fort Wayne 0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-16)
Riley Rosneck had a team-high 11 kills in the early match, but Valparaiso took the match 3-0.
Valpo took set one thanks to a late 3-0 run after Purdue Fort Wayne cut the lead to 22-20 on a kill from Avery Parris. Set two was similarly competitive to a 16-16 tie before the Beacons went on a 9-2 run. In the third, Valparaiso built up a 12-5 lead to nurse the rest of the way.
Mya Plemons was effective in the middle, notching five kills on a .625 percentage while adding three blocks. Haiden Means dished out 25 assists. Meg Berkland had a team-high 11 digs.
Valparaiso improved to 3-1 thanks to the .346 hitting percentage effort.
Eastern Michigan 3, Purdue Fort Wayne 0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-14)
The nightcap went to the home team as Eastern Michigan's offense fired on all cylinders. The balanced EMU attack finished with a very efficient .424 clip.
Plemons was once again a bright spot for the Mastodons, hitting .538 with just one error for eight kills.
EMU jumped out to an 11-2 lead early in the first to cruise to a 1-0 lead. The second set saw the 'Dons up 12-8 after a kill from Rosneck, but EMU had a 5-0 run to erase the advantage. The third set was all Eagles after they led 14-11, as they finished on an 11-3 run from there.
Eastern Michigan improved to 3-2 while Purdue Fort Wayne dropped to 0-5.
The Mastodons will play Niagara for the final match of EMU's tournament on Friday at 4 p.m.
