Mastodons Fall to Eastern Illinois

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Eastern Illinois on Sunday (Sept. 7).
The Panthers broke a 30 minute stalemate, taking the first shot on goal in the 34th minute that was saved by Jordan Imes. Eastern Illinois managed to keep the pressure on the Mastodon defense, scoring the game-winning goal in the 39th minute.
The match fell into another lull, with 32 minutes until the next shot on goal. Hailey Hoskins broke that streak with the 'Dons first shot on goal in the 71st minute. Scarlett Webster took another attempt at the goal just a few minutes later that was also saved by the keeper.
The Panthers applied some late pressure, taking a shot on goal in the 81st minute and scored a second goal in the 90th minute.
Purdue Fort Wayne led the match in corner kicks, 6-5, but trailed in shots and shots on goal. The Panthers took 10 total shots and four shots on goal, compared to the Mastodons' seven and two.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 1-4-1 and Eastern Illinois jumps to 3-4-1. The Mastodons will play their third home match in a row, hosting Ball State on Wednesday (Sept. 10) for the annual Party at the Pitch.
