Oakland Takes League Game 74-65

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Corey Hadnot II scored 22 points for Purdue Fort Wayne in a 74-65 men's basketball loss to Oakland on Wednesday (Jan. 28) evening at the Gates Sports Center.
Hadnot finished with a line of 22 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals. It is his 12th 20-point game of the season. Maximus Nelson tied a season high with 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting from three, tying his most 3-pointers in a game as a Mastodon.
The Mastodons led 22-16 after the game's first eight minutes with Nelson scoring nine of the points thanks to three triples. Oakland responded, however, going on a 13-4 push over the next four plus minutes. The stretch gave Oakland a 29-26 lead.
A DeAndre Craig Jr. buzzer beating three made it a 40-38 Oakland lead at half. The lead went back-and-fort through the first 15 minutes of the second half. Seven Mastodons had a field goal in the span before the 'Dons went up 59-58 on a 3-pointers with 5:17 remaining.
Oakland put the game away in the final two minutes. The big shot was a Ziare Wells jumper with 1:54 to put the Golden Grizzlies up 68-62. Michael Houge led Oakland with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The loss snapped a five-game win-streak for the 'Dons. It also snapped a 16-game win-streak at the Gates Sports Center dating back to the 2022-23 season.
Oakland shot 44.1 percent (26-of-59) from the floor and limited the 'Dons to 34.8 percent (24-of-69) shooting.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 13-9 (7-4 Horizon League). Oakland improves to 13-10 (9-3 Horizon League).
The 'Dons are back in action on Saturday (Jan. 31) in a 1 p.m. start against Robert Morris at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
