WESTLAKE, Ohio - Behind a 2-under performance from Gavin Hare, the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team is in the thick of a Horizon League-laden field at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational after 36 holes on Monday (Oct. 5).
After shooting a 73 in round one, Hare locked in for round two with a 4-under effort. On both trips through the course, he was remarkably consistent to start. He parred his first 12 holes in the morning round with a birdie on 17, then parred his first nine with a birdie on his 10th in round two. His 4-under back nine in the afternoon featured birdies on holes 11, 13, 15, 16 and 18. His 73-67-140 put him just one shot off the lead in the field.
In his second tournament of the fall, Julian Dugan shot 75-71-144, which put him in 26th place with 18 holes to play. He had nothing worse than a bogey in round one, which was highlighted by a birdie on the 459-yard par-4 fourth hole. In the afternoon, he rattled off six pars in a row to start before a birdie on seven. After an even front nine, he worked an even back with birdies on 11, 13 and 15.
AJ Agnew shot 76-72-148 with a steady second trip through the course. His day had nothing worse than a bogey on the scorecard with two birdies on hole eight. He also added a birdie on 18 in round two after going 1-under in his first nine of the afternoon. He is in 38th place with 18 to play.
Justin Hicks shot 72-76-148 for 38th place. He had a 2-under bogey-free front nine in the morning with birdies on six and eight. He also added a birdie on 16 for his 72. In the second round, he birdied holes eight and 13 for a 2-under opening 11 holes.
Brock Reschly had his score taken in the second round with a 78-75-153, which put him in 62nd place. He had nothing worse than a bogey in round one, but could not get any birdie putts to fall to make up for seven bogeys. His first birdie came on hole three of the second round, which started a stretch of 12 holes where he was 1-over. He also birdied hole 17 before finishing his day with a par.
Brady Moore (82-69-151, 52nd), Nick Bellush (76-72-148, 38th), Landon Smith (80-74-154, 67th) and Caden Baker (73-76-149, 44th) all played as individuals.
As a team, the Mastodons are in fifth place, just 12 shots off the lead.
The final round of the Tom Tontimonia Invitational will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 6).
