INDIANAPOLIS - In the freshly opened James T. Morris Arena in Indianapolis, the Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team swept the IU Indianapolis Jaguars 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-23) on Tuesday evening (Nov. 3).
Haiden Means led the way for the Mastodons, dishing out 41 assists and digging out eight attempts. Her setting helped the 'Dons hit .218.
Riley Rosneck (15), Trinity Rye (13) and Miona Dimitric (10) all reached double-figures in kills. Rosneck was incredibly consistent throughout, registering five in each of the three sets.
IU Indy led early in the first set 12-9, but a 4-0 run for the 'Dons that started with a solo block from Dimitric put the 'Dons up one. The Jaguars answered with three of their own, but the 'Dons had another 4-0 push to respond. Later, Dimitric had a kill that gave the 'Dons a few chances at set point. Mya Plemons had one of her six kills to give the 'Dons the 1-0 lead.
There was just one lead change in the second set, and that came at the 2-1 mark. While the 'Dons never trailed, the two were tied at 12. From there, however, Purdue Fort Wayne had an 8-1 run that was started by a kill from Rosneck. The 'Dons hit their best of the night with a .265 clip in the frame.
Rye had six of her 13 kills in the third, but it was the closest set of the night. Purdue Fort Wayne had a 5-1 run midway through the set that featured a block from Means and Plemons. IU Indy pushed back after the 'Dons were up five, but the Jaguars got no closer than 24-23. Rosneck notched her 15th kill of the night on match point to send the Jags back to the locker room early.
With the second win in a row against the Jaguars, the Mastodons moved to 13-13, 7-6 in the Horizon League. IU Indy fell to 11-15, 6-7.
Purdue Fort Wayne will play host to Northern Illinois on Saturday (Nov. 7) for the Mastodons' first matchup in league play against the Huskies.
