Mastodons Cruise to Lovely 84-68 Win in Detroit

DETROIT - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team won its Valentine's Day date with Detroit Mercy 84-68 on Saturday (Feb. 14), never trailing to the Titans.
The Mastodons were led by 20 points from Jordan Reid and a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds from Lili Krasovec. It was Krasovec's first double-double of her career thanks to the career-high 10 boards. Alana Nelson (16) and Rylee Bess (15) pitched in double-digit performances as well.
The Mastodons were in love with sharing the ball on Saturday, as they dished out 24 assists on 34 made baskets. The 24 assists ties for the seventh-most in a game in the Division I era and third-most against a Division I foe.
The difference in the game came in the first 13 minutes, which saw the Mastodons build up a 20-point lead. This came after an 11-0 run that featured two 3-pointers from Bess, and a triple and layup from Nelson. From there, the Mastodons cruised.
By the end of the third quarter, the Mastodons had the lead up to 25 after Reid had a pair of fastbreak layups. The 'Dons dominated in that category with a 20-4 edge in fastbreak points.
Purdue Fort Wayne turned defense into its offense all afternoon, scoring 34 points off Detroit Mercy's 21 turnovers.
Purdue Fort Wayne finished 34-of-70 from the floor (48.6 percent) and Detroit Mercy was 29-of-66 (43.9 percent).
With the win, Purdue Fort Wayne improved to 16-10, 10-6 in Horizon League play. Detroit Mercy fell to 5-20, 3-13.
The Mastodons will return home next week for visits from Oakland (Wednesday, Feb. 18) and Youngstown State (Saturday, Feb. 21).
