FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team dropped a Horizon League contest on Wednesday night (Feb. 19) to Oakland 71-64 in the Gates Sports Center.
It was a slow start that put the Mastodons behind the proverbial 8-ball. Oakland went up 9-0 in the opening three minutes of action. The Mastodons clawed back to take a 36-34 lead after Hillary Offing had a 4-0 run on her own. Offing finished with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in 13 minutes of action off the bench.
Oakland's rebounding wore on the Mastodons in the second half, out-shining the 'Dons on the boards 27-19 after the halftime break. Despite that, the Mastodons obliterated Oakland in the paint with a 42-28 edge when the final buzzer sounded.
The Mastodons had a season-low seven turnovers, including just two in the second half, but struggled to convert on their chances, going 3-for-22 (13.6 percent) from beyond the arc. Purdue Fort Wayne was, however, perfect from the free throw line at 9-for-9.
Four 'Dons finished in double-figures: Lili Krasovec (14), Hillary Offing (14), Lauren Lee (13) and Jordan Reid (10). Oakland was led by 17 points from Makenzie Luehring, who also added nine assists and nine rebounds.
Purdue Fort Wayne fell to 16-11, 10-7 in Horizon League play while Oakland improved to 9-18, 6-11. The Mastodons will take the Gates Sports Center again on Saturday (Feb. 21) for their annual Pink Out game, this year against Youngstown State.
