'Dons of the Week
The 'Dons earned their first Horizon League Runner of the Week award on January 27, Sam Dunnett and Lillian Hurd swept both the men's and women's runner of the week selections. Dunnett went on to claim the following week's award on February 3, along with Ali Sparks winning Purdue Fort Wayne's first Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week award of the season. The Mastodons claimed four of the eight weekly league awards from January 27 and February 3.
Men's Last Time Out
Purdue Fort Wayne split up to take on the Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational (Jan. 30-31) and Saginaw Valley State's Jet's Pizza Invitational (Jan. 30-31). Freshman Aaron Hoffer highlighted the first day by breaking the 600 meter school record in South Bend with a time of 1:22.41 in his first collegiate attempt. Australian native Sam Dunnett broke his third school record in the span of a week, this time taking down his own mile record with a time of 4:02.23 at Notre Dame. The fifth year's time ranks first in Horizon League standings. Freshman Kaleb Tucker broke his own 60 meter hurdles school record at the Meyo Invitational, beating his previous time of 8.04 by 0.01 seconds. The time sits as second best in league standings. Tucker used a time of 8.24 to qualify for the finals.
Women's Last Time Out
The Mastodons split up to take on the Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational (Jan. 30-31) and Saginaw Valley State's Jet's Pizza Invitational (Jan. 30-31). Lillian Hurd highlighted the Mastodons' final day, breaking the 400 meter dash school record in South Bend. The sophomore ran a 55.23 to beat the previous record, which stood for over a decade, by nearly a second. The Ohio native's time is currently the quickest in the Horizon League. The 'Dons 4x400 team of Sanayah Ruffin, Amelie Mach, Lena James and Hurd closed out the meet by breaking the school record at Notre Dame by nearly a second, finishing in 3:46.78 for the HL's top time.
#HLTF Indoor Preseason Polls
The Mastodon women's team earned 76 points in the polls, behind Youngstown State (98) and Milwaukee (90). The Penguins took eight first place votes, leaving two for the Panthers. The Mastodon men tallied 42 points in the polls. Youngstown State (63) and Milwaukee (57) owned the top of the men's preseason polls as well, the Penguins took seven of the eight first place votes.
