'Dons Take Second at #HLTF Outdoor Championships

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's track and field team finished a program best second at the 2026 Horizon League Outdoor Championships on Sunday (May 10), led by the Men's Championship Outstanding Performer in Running Noah Morris' two event titles. Morris wasn't the only Mastodon to earn a major award with Aaron Combs taking home the 2026 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Men's Coach of the Year honor.
The Mastodons claimed their best finish in program history thanks to 129.5 points. The 'Dons received production from all five event groups throughout the weekend: throws (50), sprints (44), distance (15), jumps (10.5) and multis (10). Youngstown State won the 2026 Horizon League Outdoor Championships with 264 points.
Morris proved he was the fastest man in the Horizon League on the final day of the meet, winning both the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash to earn the league's outstanding performer in running events award. The sophomore won the 100 meter dash (10.67), chasing down teammate Ezra Lewellen who took runner-up with a time of 10.71. The Michigan native then ran a 21.50 200-meter dash time to be crowned champion in both events. Lewllen also competed in to 200 meter dash, finishing in sixth with a time of 22.11.
Fifth-year Sam Dunnett opened the individual running events by taking second in the 1500 meters, crossing the finish line at a time of 3:45.76. Freshman Jack Strong ran a personal record 3:54.31 in the event final, good for sixth.
The Purdue Fort Wayne 4x100 relay squad of Tristen Newsome, Morris, Darius Atkins and Lewellen finished second with a collective time of 41.36.
Four Mastodon throwers earned points in the hammer throw. Hunter Crew took third with a 52.18 meter mark, Owen Kaufman finished fifth with a 51.60 meter throw, Josiah Bird finished seventh with a 49.02 meter toss and Denton Jacobs used a personal record 45.20 meter mark for eighth.
Freshman Sawyer Ruminer finished third in the pole vault, clearing 4.50 meters. Andrew Roman (4.40m) and Luca Merita (4.10m) also earned points for the 'Dons in the event, finishing fifth and eighth.
Kale Seymour ran a school record 800 meters time of 1:52.95 to take sixth in the event final.
The 4x400 team of Troy Golden, Braydn Livingston, Joshua Roper and Seymour finished in sixth with a time of 3:23.16.
Cainen Northington earned two points with a seventh place finish in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 49.67.
The award for Combis is his second career coaching honor from the league. He was named the Horizon League Women's Indoor Coach of the Year in 2025.
