
Nelson, Reid and Bess Honored With #HLWBB All-League Awards

INDIANAPOLIS - Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball's Alana Nelson, Jordan Reid and Rylee Bess picked up All-Horizon League awards on Monday (March 2), the league announced. Nelson earned a spot on the All-League First Team, while Reid was selected to the All-Defensive Team and Bess was on the All-Freshman Team.
Nelson averaged 17.0 points per game in league play, which was the third-most in the HL. The graduate student shot 49.6 percent from the floor and 36.1 percent from 3-point range, both top-five marks in the league. She started all 30 games for the Mastodons in the regular season, scoring in double-figures in 24 of them. She scored 20 or more in 12 games. Overall this season, she averaged 16.5 points per game on 50.1 percent shooting and 39.1 percent 3-point shooting, all of which are top-four averages in the league. Nelson was the Horizon League Player of the Week three times, the only player in the league to be picked three times. This is the third year in a row that a Mastodon has earned a spot on the All-League First Team. Amellia Bromenschenkel (2023-24) and Lauren Ross (2024-25) earned the honor the last two seasons.
Reid was a menace on defense all season long, recording at least one steal in 29 of the 30 games in the regular season. The graduate student had three or more steals in 14 games, with five in two. She averaged 2.1 steals per game in league play, the second-most among all players. She added 4.6 rebounds per game in league play and 5.0 overall. Reid was the Horizon League Player of the Week on November 17. Reid is the first Mastodon to earn a spot on the All-Defensive Team since Shayla Sellers in 2022-23.
Bess was one of the top 3-point shooters in the league, pouring in 60 triples on a 39.5 percent clip from distance. In league games, Bess averaged 9.6 points per game with a 37.7 3-point percentage, which was the third-best in the league. She recorded double-digit scoring performances in 12 games with a season-high of 27 at Northern Kentucky. That was the most points scored by a Mastodon this season. She was selected as the Horizon League Freshman of the Week twice, once for hitting the game-winning shot against Purdue and once for her 27-point effort at NKU. Bess is the first All-Freshman Team honoree for the Mastodons since 2023-24.
