FORT WAYNE, Ind. - It was a victorious day in the Gates Sports Center for the Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team as the Mastodons picked up a 3-1 win over Columbia and a 3-0 sweep in the nightcap against Stonehill.

The Mastodon offense was near the best it's been all season. The 'Dons finished with a team hitting percentage of .315, despite a .176 opening frame.

The 'Dons stifled Columbia in the first set, forcing the Lions to hit -.152 and allowing just five kills. Meanwhile, the Purdue Fort Wayne offense was spread across all six players that attempted an attack. Each of them recorded at least one kill. This trend continued into the second set, in which the 'Dons were doubly as efficient at .350. The Mastodons blitzed the Columbia quickly and never trailed in either of the first two sets. Becky Barrett, who was honored for joining the 1,000-dig club prior to the evening match, racked up 10 digs and four aces in the first two sets.

Columbia never trailed in set three despite the 'Dons hitting a solid .346. The Lions answered back with a .400 hitting clip of their own.

Purdue Fort Wayne rolled in set four, only trailing before the 5-point mark. Miona Dimitric had a service that resulted in a 7-point run to put the 'Dons up 12-6. She had two aces along the way. The Mastodons built up a lead as large as 10 before the Lions clawed back to within six. By that point, however, the 'Dons needed just two points to take the match, so they went to their best hitters, Trinity Rye and Riley Rosneck, to finish it off.

Rosneck finished with 13 kills, while Rye added 11 and Dimitric had 10. Barrett finished with 16 digs.

As a team, the 'Dons had 14 aces. Barrett had four, Dimitric had three, Ellie Adams, Rosneck, and Means had two each, and Rye had one.

Columbia fell to 5-2.

Purdue Fort Wayne trailed just twice in the entire match against Stonehill and both came in the first set: 1-0 and 19-18.

The Mastodons went up 17-12 in set one when Rye got a kill, but the Skyhawks delivered a 7-1 stretch that put them up 19-18. Purdue Fort Wayne locked in from there though, rattling off seven points in a row to win the set. Means had two kills in that stretch.

Purdue Fort Wayne's offense in set two looked much like the morning match, as they hit .364. That was in large part to Rye, who racked up five kills on nine attempts. The 'Dons jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back. A 6-0 run later on put the Mastodons up eight after a kill from Mya Plemons. The Skyhawks got back within four, but no closer than that.

The Mastodons never trailed in the last set of the night either, locking Stonehill down to .051 hitting. Similar to the second set, the 'Dons went up 4-1 and Stonehill never tied the set. The Skyhawks made a push to bring the deficit to just one at 16-15, but the Mastodons followed with an 8-3 stretch, highlighted by an emphatic kill from Rye, to take control of the match.

Rye (11) and Rosneck (10) reached double-figure kills again, and Rosneck added a match-high 10 digs for a double-double. The 'Dons had six blocks, paced by four from Bella DiBuono.

With the loss, Stonehill fell to 3-11. The Mastodons improved to 6-6 with the win.

Purdue Fort Wayne and Indiana State will clash for the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational team title on Saturday (Sept. 19) at 2 p.m.
