2009-10 Season
Kovalov played in 20 of the Mastodons' 31 games in the 2009-10 campaign. He averaged 2.2 points and 1.4 rebounds a game. Scored a season-high 11 points against Western Illinois at the Memorial Coliseum on Jan. 2. Made a season-high three field goals in that game, including a 3-pointer. Was also a perfect 4-4 from the line in that contest. Hauled down a season-high four rebounds against Madonna (11/17), Michigan State (12/19) and Southern Utah (1/14).
Kovalov dished out a pair of assists twice during the year, Jan. 21 at South Dakota State and Feb. 23 vs. SIU Edwardsville. Had steals on three occasions and blocked a pair of shots.
Before Coming to IPFW
Oleg Kovalov is a 6' 8", 220 lb. forward who has the versatility to play either in the post or on the wing.
The Kiev, Ukraine native comes to IPFW after playing at Cloud Community College in Concordia, Kansas. Kovalov played for two seasons under the guidance of head coach Kevin Muff. The Thunderbirds posted a record of 18-13 in 2008-09. He averaged 9.1 points and five rebounds a game and his 72.3% free throw percentage was 15th overall in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
Oleg is the son of Serjey and Galia Kovalov. He has one sister, Natallia. Kovalov is majoring in Organizational Leadership and Supervision at IPFW.
