McClain opened his 2008 season with a 19:01 at the Dayton Meier 5K. Posted a 29:12 in the 8K at the Notre Dame Invitational Gold Division Race. Finished the season with a pair of 10K races. Logged a 34:48 at the Arkansas Chili Pepper Invitational and a 28:36 at the Summit League Championships in Shreveport, Louisiana.

McClain was named 1A 2A All-State for three seasons at Oak Hill High School in Converse, Indiana.
