Kooten Johnson was named an assistant coach for the Mastodon men's soccer program on March 19, 2020.
Johnson came to Purdue Fort Wayne after spending the five previous seasons as the head coach at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. The 2019 season was a record-setting campaign for the Division III Fighting Scots that culminated with Johnson being named the Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Coach of the Year.
He led the Fighting Scots to nine wins in 2019, the second most in program history. Monmouth qualified for the Midwest Conference Tournament for the first time since 2001 and set a program record for single-season goals against average. In his time at Monmouth, Johnson guided the Fighting Scots to 12 All-Conference selections, in addition to Jaxon Coleman earning Newcomer of the Year honors in 2019. Johnson also coached 31 Academic All-Conference selections.
Johnson was a four-year starter and a two-time Summit League Fall All-Academic selection at Western Illinois University. In 2010 he earned All-League honors.
Johnson earned his undergraduate degree in kinesiology from Western Illinois.
