On June 21, 2007, IPFW head women's soccer coach Margaret Saurin finalized her staff with the hiring of Joe DeMay as assistant women's soccer coach.
Joe DeMay comes to IPFW with over 15 years of coaching experience at the club, high school, ODP, and college levels. While his background includes plenty of goalkeeping experience, DeMay has also been very successful in coaching field players to a high level of success.
As a member of the Region II ODP staff DeMay has had the opportunity to work with some of the best players in the Midwest, including players who have been selected for youth national team duty.
As Director of ODP Goalkeeping in Ohio-North DeMay was responsible for training and evaluating all goalkeepers involved in the program. During his years in Ohio-North he saw five goalkeepers reach the regional team with four of those goalkeepers moving on to the Division I collegiate level of play.
In addition to his ODP duties Joe served for two years as a Women's Assistant and Goalkeeper Coach at Youngstown State University. Most recently he served as the Head Boy's and Girl's Soccer Coach at Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio where he helped guide both teams to regional play in the state tournament and a state final appearance for the boy's team in 2005. In his time at Cardinal Mooney DeMay assisted six players in receiving Division I soccer scholarships.
To fill a void at the club level, DeMay founded the Phoenix Soccer Club. In three years he helped build the club's numbers to over 150 players and 10 teams significantly raising the standard of play in the Youngstown area. He also holds a USSF B License and a USSF National Youth License.
DeMay has been married to his wife Sherri for 18 years, and they have two daughters, Kate and Harper.
